Mya attended her second movie yesterday. (First was Madagascar II with Dad and Lucas). Yesterday we took in Monsters vs. Aliens.
We got there in plenty of time - or so I thought. We had a gift card to use and, predictably, the sole worker didn't know how to use it and put the balance on my credit card. We had waited about 10 minutes in line and then we waited another 10 minutes for worker #2 to come help us. The first part of our wait was uneventful. The second portion got hairy.
Throughout this part of the wait, Mya had decided it would be fun to have me hold her. Then, she thought "kisses" (which are really licks) would be entertaining. I finally have to put my heavy, slobbery load down on the floor. She resisted and clung to my leg.
Finally, she stands up on her own steam and, for some reason I never did quite understand, she needs to see my tummy. She's trying to lift my shirt and I'm trying to dissuade her. By now, I'm threatening a return to the car and no movie unless she's a good listener. All the while I'm simultaneously talking with the theater guy and there is a line of people growing behind me.
I'm sweating and breathing deeply by this point. Lucas joins in and demands to have some candy in addition to the popcorn. Eventually, I pay cash for the balance, and we make it out of the lobby.
The movie was 3D and the challenge of that was the popcorn grease that Lucas and Mya kept smearing all over their glasses. Mya gave up on the glasses after a while and got extremely sleepy. She curled up on my lap and quietly explained she would like to go home for a rest. To her credit, she hung in there and peacefully watched the movie all the way to the end with a minimum of stirring.
She only needed to be hushed a few times when she began commentating the movie and asking questions - what was that? where is Susan? why did you laugh Mommy? Better to laugh than cry I wanted to say.
