Picture a room full of rambunctious three year old's proudly showing their parents and siblings their school room. Consider that more than half of the group were in class together last year too. Most of the children in the room are boys. You can imagine how loud and rowdy such a gathering might be.
I was contemplating the chaos when I glanced across the hall and saw one set of parents serenely speaking to the other teacher. There wasn't another person in the room. Clearly, Mya's school experience is going to be affected by her familiarity with most of her classmates (and the dominance of boys).
She was bouncing and performing her way around the room. Most of the parents know her and were taking time to interact with her. Ms. Jeannie and I tried to exchange some information with Mya's head bopping in between us.
I encouraged Ms. Jeannie to call or email if she encounters Mya's current displeasure with being told "no". Hopefully her rages will be confined to home, but I wanted to give Ms. Jeannie a little warning of what might erupt.
Free of any angst last night, Mya showed me her helper tags and clarified she had been calendar helper yesterday. She pointed out her jellyfish hanging from the ceiling and tickling Connor's Dad's head :) She said she didn't have an appointed chair but could just sit in her favorite - the top left corner. She knows where her hook is in the hall, she talks about the two other little girls in the class but she is buds with the boys too (especially the three she had in her class last year).
Then, just to keep us guessing, Mya awoke this morning and declared she no longer liked school and, for the first time, said she was NOT going. Huh? Craig and I tag teamed it and got her out the door despite her displeasure. He reports back to me that things had calmed down by the time they got to the detour sign near McMullen Cove. Bless Ms. Jeannie for being surrounded by three year olds!
